19 Effective Natural Remedies to Cure Stomach Ulcers!

Stomach ulcers or peptic ulcer/gastric ulcer, occur when the lining of the stomach (small intestine) breaks down by harmful effects of stomach acid.

Most of the Stomach ulcers are caused by the bacteria called Helicobacter pylori and also by the over usage of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) like Asprin.

Other reasons of Stomach Ulcers include physical injury, high alcohol consumption, burns or the use of painkillers like aspirin, naproxen or ibuprofen.

Symptoms of stomach ulcers include a burning sensation or pain in upper abdominal, vomiting, heartburn, indigestion, bloating, belching, nausea, etc.

A gastric ulcer can affect people of all ages, but it is mostly seen in people above 60.

You can try these simple, effective home remedies to get rid of stomach ulcers before it gets worse.

Natural Remedies to Cure Stomach Ulcers


1. Cabbage

Cabbage is rich in lactic acid and vitamin C that help treat stomach ulcers. It helps produce an amino acid that stimulates the blood flow to the stomach lining, which heals the peptic ulcer.

Take some chopped cabbage and two carrots in a mixer. Grind them to extract the juice. Drink the ½ cup of this juice twice daily (only 850 ml in a day).

2. Coconut

Coconut possesses anti-bacterial properties that ward off the ulcer-causing bacteria.

Drink coconut water regularly, else, eat the kernel of coconut to get better results. Also, you can take 1 tablespoon of coconut oil twice daily for one week. It is composed of saturated fat and medium-chain fatty acid, so it can be easily digested.

3. Fenugreek

Take 1 cup of fenugreek leaves and add three cups of water to it. Boil this solution and add a pinch of salt to it. Strain it and let it cool down. Drink 1 cup of this mixture twice daily. Else, soak two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in water overnight. Strain it the next morning and drink this water before breakfast.

4. Banana

It consists of an antiulcer component that provides a protective covering by increasing the mucus in the digestive tract, treating the ulcers in an effective manner.

Eat a ripe banana followed by a glass of milk. Alternatively, you can also prepare fresh banana milkshake and add honey to it for taste. Drink it thrice a day.

5. Cayenne pepper

It effectively fights off the ulcer-causing bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. Also, cayenne pepper boosts the production of alkali and regulates the stomach secretions that prevent the production of acids.

Mix one- fourth teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a cup of hot water and drink it daily. Moreover, cayenne pepper can also be added to soups and other dishes.

6. Honey

Honey contains an enzyme that produces hydrogen peroxide. This enzyme helps to kill the bacteria responsible for the development of stomach ulcers. In the morning take one spoon of honey with milk, daily.

7. Garlic

Eating garlic regularly keeps the levels of the H. pylori bacterium in check. Eat 2- 3 garlic cloves daily to get relief from peptic ulcers.

8. Flavonoids

Flavonoids are also effective for stomach ulcers. These are compounds that are naturally present in many fruits and vegetables such as berries, soybeans, green tea, kale, broccoli, etc. try include these as much in your diet to enjoy healthy stomach.

9. Probiotics

Probiotics are the living bacteria that help keep our digestive system healthy and active. They are present in most fermented foods. Some of these include yogurt, miso, buttermilk, and kimchi.

10. Cranberry

Cranberry is one of the most famous ingredients used for ulcer treatment. It also fights urinary tract infections, preventing the bacteria from settling on the walls of the bladder.

You can consume cranberry juice, twice daily or have it in the form of supplements.

11. Aloe juice

Aloe vera is a wonder plant. The gel treats all health problems. Drink aloe juice daily empty stomach every morning.

It helps ease the symptoms of acid reflux and also reduces the irritation in the stomach caused due to the stomach ulcers.

12. Calendula

Calendula possesses anti-bacterial properties. Drink tea prepared from this herb as it is very effective in healing the peptic ulcer.

13. Peppermint

Peppermint is quite effective and easily available herbs, for the treatment of ulcer. It has a cooling effect that eases the ulcer and reduces the burning sensation in the stomach.

Boil handful of crushed peppermint leaves in water. Steep it for few minutes. Strain the solution and drink slowly.

14. Drumstick

Drumstick is also effective for stomach ulcers. Make a paste of drumstick leaves by grinding them with a little water. Add some yogurt to it. Consume it daily to ease ulcers.

15. Licorice

DGL – Deglycyrrhizinated licorice works well in treating peptic ulcers. It promotes the production of protective mucus in stomach and intestines. Moreover, licorice also prevents the occurrence of new stomach ulcers.

16. Marshmallow

Marshmallow roots are used for several medicinal purposes. It soothes the irritated wall of the stomach and also relieves from nausea, indigestion, and gastritis.

Prepare herbal tea by boiling marshmallow root powder in water for few minutes. Strain and let it cool down. Drink it every day to get relief from the painful symptoms of the peptic ulcers.

17. Lemon juice

Lemon contains citric acid and mineral salts which aid in digestion.

Take some warm water and add lime juice and pinch of black salt to it. Drink it daily. Else, take a half lemon and warm it over the stove. Add a pinch of black salt to it and have it twice daily to treat the pain and indigestion caused by Stomach ulcers.

18. White gourd

The White gourd has alkaline nature due to which it neutralizes the acidic effect in the stomach. Grate some ash gourd and extract out the juice from it. Then, add an equal amount of water to it. Have it daily on empty stomach and do not eat food for 2 to 3 hours.

19. Apple cider vinegar

ACV is also a wonder treatment for health problems. Sometimes due to lack of acid in your stomach, you might face problems with acid reflux.

Take a glass of water and add 1 tablespoon of raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar to it. Drink it to improve the acidic content in your stomach.

  • Eat a healthy diet full of fruits, veggies, and whole grains.
  • Practice yoga, especially deep breathing exercises.
  • Use a hot towel or heating pad for treating peptic ulcer.
  • Drink plenty of water, at least 2L in a day.
  • Eat vitamin-rich foods to fasten the healing process.
  • Keep yourself stress-free. Do meditation or go for morning walk daily. It keeps you healthy and fresh all day.
  • Maintain a gap of 2 hours between dinner and your sleeping routine.
  • Eat meals at regular interval to avoid starving.
  • Chew your food slowly.
  • Avoid alcohol as excessive usage can irritate and erode the mucous lining in your stomach.
  • Say no to carbonated drinks.
  • Stay away from fried food or too oily meals.
